45 years ago today, more than 200 firefighters, police and paramedics answered the call when a fire erupted under the Commodore Barry Bridge on today’s date in 1978. One of the worst illegal chemical dump fires in our nation’s history resulted in over 50 members of the first responder community getting sick or tragically losing their lives.
Today we will pay our respects and honor those who paved the way for the membership today. God bless our fallen brothers.
We thank each and everyone of our first responders. They all went there without reservations and did their duty with distinction and honor! Some, unknowingly, gave their lives or good health that day. Again, we thank you.
