Chief David Splain is warning about a scammer who is falsely identifying himself as an officer from the Nether Providence Police Department in phone calls from a legitimate department phone number.

In a scenario this morning, the individual identified himself as Officer Sebastian Brown and told a woman she was in legal trouble.  Before the woman provided any information, she hung up and called the number back that appeared on her phone - contacting an actual representative of the police department who verified the scam.

“She did it exactly right,” Splain said.
