UPLAND BOROUGH POLICE DEPARTMENT TO CONDUCT PEDESTRIAN ENFORCEMENT
Upland Borough, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT), Upland Borough Police Department and Southern Delaware County Task Force will conduct pedestrian enforcement operations from December 19, 2022 through January 6, 2023.
Reduction of pedestrian injuries and fatalities is the goal of pedestrian enforcement. This enforcement focuses on enforcement of right-of-way pedestrian laws at crosswalks.
The Southern Delaware County Task Force is comprised of the following police departments:
Chester City, Upland Borough, Bethel Township, Glenolden Borough, Chester Township, Aston Township, Ridley Township, Collingdale Borough, Eddystone Borough, Sharon Hill Borough and Upper Providence Township
Upland Borough reminds the public:
a) General rule.--Every pedestrian shall yield the right-of-way to all vehicles upon the roadway if not crossing at an intersection or marked crosswalk.
(c) Between controlled intersections in urban district.--Between adjacent intersections in urban districts where signals are operating pedestrians must use a marked crosswalk.
(d) Crossing intersection diagonally.--No pedestrian shall cross a roadway intersection diagonally unless authorized by official traffic-control devices or by a police officer or other person authorized to control regulate traffic.
The operations are funded in part by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation’s statewide distribution of federal funds from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
