ADVISORY – Upland Borough Police Department, May 16, 2022 to June 3, 2022 –to conduct Traffic Enforcement Zones as part of the May/June “Click It or Ticket” Seat Belt Enforcement
Upland Borough Police Department today announced Traffic Enforcement Zones as part of the National May/June “Click It or Ticket” Seat Belt Enforcement Mobilization running from May 16 through June 5.
Traffic Enforcement Zones (TEZ) will be used for this mobilization on selected roadways with high unbelted crash rates. Police will cite drivers and front-seat passengers who aren’t wearing seat belts.
PennDOT data for 2020 shows that 348 individuals were killed in crashes while not wearing their seat belt.
Motorists are reminded that Pennsylvania’s primary seat-belt law requires any occupant younger than 18 to buckle up when riding in a vehicle. Children under the age of two must be secured in a rear-facing car seat, and children under the age of four must be restrained in an approved child safety seat. Children must ride in a booster seat until their eighth birthday.
Drivers and front-seat passengers 18 years-old or older are also required to buckle up. If motorists are stopped for a traffic violation and are not wearing their seat belt, they can receive a second ticket and second fine.
