On Sunday, June 30, 2019, at 3:43 PM, Officer Robert Dukes observed a while male (later identified as Stephen Groome) operate a black Harley Davidson motorcycle in the Wendy’s parking lot (115 Stewart Ave off I95). Groome placed a drink cup on the ground and began to exit the parking lot on the motorcycle which had expired registration. Officer Dukes then conducted a traffic stop and requested Groome’s pertinent information.
During the course of the traffic stop, Officer Dukes noticed fresh track marks on Groome’s left forearm. A pat down search when then performed which revealed five packaged needle syringes. When questioned if he had any further contraband, Groome lifted his shirt and displayed a sixth used needle inside his front waistband.
Groome then consented to a search of his back pack as well as the motorcycle. A small bag of green leafy substance (suspected marijuana) was discovered in the leather compartment above the gas tank. Inside the left rear saddlebag, Officer Dukes located a .38 Smith and Wesson revolver which was fully loaded. Groome denied ownership of the gun and did not have a valid permit to carry.
A search through NCIC determined that Groome’s license was suspended DUI related. Groome also had multiple warrant from the Miami Dade Police Department in Florida. Groome was subsequently taken into custody and charged accordingly. The suspected marijuana was transferred to the Pennsylvania State Police Crime Laboratory for forensic analysis.
