The Nether Providence Township Police announce the arrest of Rakeshbhai Yogeshbhai Patel for Driving Under The Influence and related traffic offenses.
On 11/07/2021 at about 2222 hours, officers of the Nether Providence Township Police were dispatched to the intersection of East Brookhaven Road and South Providence Road for a single vehicle accident, vehicle into a telephone pole. Officer Robert Brake (Badge #9929) arrived and observed a white Lexus RX350 that had struck a telephone pole, splitting the pole in half. Officers and emergency workers were forced to shut down the above intersection as live wires and the pole were blocking the highway. Officer Brake was eventually able to remove the operator, later identified as Mr. Patel, and get him away from the vehicle and to a safe area. During the investigation, Officer Brake could detect a very strong odor of an alcoholic beverage about the breath and person of Mr. Patel, a slurred speech and blood shot eyes. While walking away from the accident scene, Mr. Patel displayed a lack of balance which was observed by Officer Brake although Mr. Patel stated he was not injured from the accident.
After further investigation of the accident and other observations of Mr. Patel, Officer Brake determined that he was under the influence of alcohol, to a degree which rendered him incapable of operating a motor vehicle safely upon the roadways. Mr. Patel was placed under arrest for D.U.I. and other traffic offenses at that time. Mr. Patel refused to submit to a chemical test of his blood requested by the officer and he was later released pending a summons to appear in court to answer the charges. The roadway was later made safe and the intersection was opened to regular traffic.
