On Saturday, April 3, 2021, at approximately 20:46 hours, Officer Smith observed a maroon Ford Flex traveling on West Chester Pike approaching the intersection with Veterans Boulevard, displaying a fraudulent Pennsylvania In-Transit paper tag. Officer Smith notified Officer Gallagher who was able to conduct a vehicle stop on the vehicle in the area of West Chester Pike and Lawrence Road.
Officers Gallagher and Smith made contact with the vehicle operator, identified as Rashaun Kashif Davis, and a female passenger. An odor of marijuana was immediately apparent from within the vehicle. Both occupants denied possessing a medical marijuana card. When requested, Davis was unable to provide proper documentation for the vehicle. A subsequent search of the vehicle recovered approximately 5½ ounces of suspected marijuana, drug packaging materials, a digital scale, over $650 US Currency, and a Smith & Wesson SD9 9mm firearm. Both subjects were placed under arrest and transported to Marple Township Police Headquarters.
At Headquarters, Davis stated that all of the items were his, and subsequently waived his Miranda Rights and provided a written statement stating the same. A check of Davis’ criminal history showed Davis to be a convicted felon, and unable to legally possess a firearm.
Davis was processed and arraigned, during which bail was set at $100,000 cash.
