At 1:15 PM, Officer Matthew Smith responded to the Walmart store at 400 S State Rd for a retail theft. Walmart Loss Prevention personnel observed a black female, now identified as Sabreen Abdul-Raheem, concealing items inside her purse. Raheem also failed to pay for items in the self-checkout register lane. Raheem then walked past all points of sale with the alleged stolen/concealed merchandise. Raheem was then stopped by Walmart loss prevention staff and Raheem cooperated initially. After loss prevention asked to search her purse, Raheem then attempted to flee the store with the bags containing the items. Loss prevention then followed her out to the parking lot and attempted to retrieve the bags at which point a physical altercation occurred between Raheem and staff members. Raheem eventually let go of the bags and got into a vehicle and fled the scene. Springfield Township Police Officers located and stopped the vehicle in Springfield. Abdul-Raheem, a 24-year-old resident of Philadelphia, was taken into custody, processed and charged with retail theft.
