Car Stop Leads To Arrest of Felons in Possession of a Stolen Firearm

On November 5, 2022 at approximately 2:41pm, a Darby Township police officer assigned to the Patrol Division was monitoring traffic in the area of Hook Road and Calcon Hook Road. While doing so, the officer observed a vehicle traveling eastbound on Hook Road with a fraudulent registration placard displayed. The officer conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle due to the traffic violations observed. Upon conducting the stop, the officer made contact with the operator of the vehicle, who was identified as Zachary M. Jones, Jr. and an adult subject in the front passenger seat, who was identified as Alexis Miller. Due to the officer’s observations while speaking with the operator of the vehicle, both subjects were requested to exit the vehicle. As they did so, the officer observed a black, semi-automatic Glock 42 handgun with an extended magazine attached. That magazine was loaded with numerous live rounds of ammunition. Further investigation revealed that Jones, Jr. and Miller have prior felony convictions and, as such, are not permitted to possess a firearm. During the investigation, the officer also determined that the firearm had been previously reported as stolen out of Lexington County, SC.

Zachary Jones, Jr. and Alexis Miller were arraigned by the Honorable District Judge Robert D'Agostino on November 5, 2022. Jones, Jr's bail was set at 10% of $250,000.00. Miller's bail was set at 10% of $75,000.00. Both Jones, Jr. and Miller failed to post their bail and were taken to the George W. Hill Correctional Facility where they will await their preliminary hearing.
