On Monday, December 26, 2022, a Darby Township Police Officer assigned to the Patrol Division was monitoring traffic in the 100 block of North MacDade Boulevard. While there, the officer observed a maroon in color Ford Taurus (Pennsylvania Registration LZR-8790) traveling at a high rate of speed westbound on MacDade Boulevard. The officer began following the vehicle and while doing so, the officer observed on multiple instances that the vehicle began drifting out of its lane of travel. As a result of the traffic violation observed, the officer conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle. Upon making contact with the driver (identified as Mark Wilson) the officer observed a digital scale on the back seat. The officer then asked Wilson about the digital scale and inquired if he had any illegal drugs inside of the vehicle. Wilson advised that he did and then reached inside of his front right jacket pocket and displayed a clear ziploc sandwich bag containing a green leafy substance (suspected marijuana).
A consent search of the vehicle was conducted and through that search, the officer located behind the driver's seat, a plastic ziploc package labeled "Train Smoke" which contained a green leafy substance (suspected marijuana). Underneath the front passenger seat the officer located a Glock Model 23 .40 caliber handgun, serial # BUCY820, with (1) one live .40 caliber round chambered, and (20) twenty live .40 caliber rounds loaded into an extended magazine that was inserted into the magazine well of the firearm. Wilson was then detained.
The officer conducted a query of Wilson through NCIC which revealed that Wilson did not possess a permit to carry a firearm. Further, the officer conducted a query of Wilson’s criminal history which deemed Wilson a person not to possess a firearm within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania due to prior felony convictions. As a result, Wilson was arrested.
Wilson was later arraigned on these charges by the Honorable District Judge Davis and bail was set at 10% of $200,000.00. Wilson was transported to the George W. Hill Correctional Facility and is awaiting his preliminary hearing.
