Officer-Involved Shooting Under Investigation
On Wednesday, August 20, 2025, at approximately 11:35 p.m., officers from the Chester Police Department were in the 100 block of West 21st Street responding to an unrelated call for service when they heard multiple gunshots fired nearby.
Officers immediately moved toward the sound of gunfire and encountered an armed suspect actively discharging a firearm in their direction. Several officers returned fire, striking the suspect and successfully neutralizing the threat without further incident.
The suspect sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was transported to Christiana Hospital for medical treatment. There were no reports of injuries to any officers on scene or to members of the community in the area during the exchange.
In accordance with department policy and standard procedure, the officers involved in discharging their service weapons have been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
The incident is currently under investigation by the Special Investigations Unit of the Delaware County District Attorney’s Office.
